A puppy in the house!

Yes that is right, you didn't misread the headline - we do have a puppy in the house! Little Ellery arrived here on 17th May. He was just over eight weeks old having been born on Joan's birthday. To say we were shocked is an understatement.

We couldn't understand it although we have known that Joan was considering getting a dog we were still surprised when he arrived.

He is a very cheeky puppy and it wasn't long before he was laying claim to our toy mice and balls although Joan won't let him play with the glitter balls in case he destroys them and swallows the glitter.

He was quite tiny when he arrived weighing just about 1Kg according to the vet nurse when he went for his first shots the following day. He is growing and gaining weight but Joan says he won't get very big as he is a Chinese Crested Powderpuff which we had never heard of before.

Joan says when he is grown he will have long silky fur like a small Afghan but at present he just looks fluffy all over.

He loves to play and chase which we don't mind as long as he doesn't chase us. He did spot me sitting in a cardboard box and he came over to play with me but I am not too sure about playing with him as I have seen what he does with his toy dog and it looks far too rough for me.

Max has taken it upon himself to be in charge of training Ellery that cats don't like to be chased - it is early days yet but we think he is getting the message as Max stands his ground and hisses if Ellery gets too close.
